Original full valid driving license issued by the main driver's country. The driving license must match with the passport. The number of seats of the rented vehicle should comply with the driving category authorized by your driver's license.

The original International Driving Permit (IDP) issued by a member country of the 1949 Geneva Convention on International Road Traffic. The permit must be an A6-size paper booklet, with the words 「Convention On International Road Traffic Of 19 September 1949」 printed on the cover, and shall be valid for no more than one year from the date of issue. IDPs issued under other treaties, such as the 1968 Vienna Convention, are not accepted, even if the issuing country is also a member of the Geneva Convention. If you hold a driving permit from Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium, Slovenia, Monaco, you may use your driving permit in Japan for one year after arrival, as long as you provide an official Japanese translation of the permit.
